VIRGINIA – A man was arrested on Monday after allegedly crashing his vehicle into a Covington gas station while under the influence of drugs.

At 11:43 a.m. on May 5, officers from the Covington Division of Police responded to a report of a vehicle colliding with the Exxon station on Durant Road.

When they arrived, they discovered a red Ford Ranger that had crashed into the front of the building.

The driver, Jacob Lee Elmore of Alleghany County, appeared disoriented.

Officers detected a strong marijuana odor coming from Elmore, who was then subjected to field sobriety tests. He was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs.

Elmore was detained overnight at the Alleghany Regional Jail and is scheduled for a bond hearing.

There were no injuries reported during the incident. Police say no additional information is available at this time.
