A Brief History of Skype’s Rise and Fall

All contacts and chats will be automatically transferred to Teams, so there’s little hassle involved in making the switch. However, users also have the option to download and save their chat history before making the move.
It’s important to note that if users do not migrate to Microsoft Teams or download their data by January 2026, all their Skype data will be permanently deleted. Microsoft has urged Skype users to act now before it’s too late.
The End of an Era
For many, Skype has been an essential part of their personal and professional lives. You will be missed.” Others, however, were less sentimental, with some users expressing relief that Skype was finally closing down, saying, “Good riddance.”
Skype for Business: A Slight Glimmer of Continuity
While the consumer version of Skype will be discontinued, Skype for Business will remain available for the time being. However, Microsoft is likely to transition these users to Microsoft Teams as well in the near future. So, while Skype for Business will continue for now, it’s only a matter of time before it, too, is fully integrated into Teams.
